MEDICINE / NEUROLOGY · REVIEWED SOURCE MAP

Acute ischaemic stroke.
Time, system, source.

Clinical boundary: This is not emergency triage or management advice. New stroke-like symptoms need immediate assessment through the local emergency system.

What to learn

The AHA/ASA published an updated early-management guideline for acute ischaemic stroke in 2026. Use it to learn document scope, not to replace the time-critical local stroke pathway.

Anchor 1 — identify the phase. Pre-hospital systems, imaging, acute treatment, post-acute care and rehabilitation are different questions.

Anchor 2 — date matters. Acute-stroke evidence and guidelines change; a historical answer key may no longer represent current guidance.

Anchor 3 — systems matter. A guideline is interpreted through available local services, protocols and patient assessment.

Active recall

Why should a stroke question be located on a care pathway before answering?

Because early recognition, transport, imaging and later care are distinct stages with different source scopes.

What is the safer response to an older summary?

Check the current source and the locally applicable protocol.
